Christian Unity or One World Religion?

Pope Francis meets with evangelical leaders
For many years I've been hearing among the End Time "specialist" that the One World Religion would come through the Roman Catholic Church with the Pope being the False Prophet that follows the Antichrist. I believe that even the authors of the very popular Left Behind Series chose the Pope as the False Prophet in their books. With this in mind it came to no surprise to me when many evangelicals began to get concerned when the Pope gave a special message to a Charismatic (Pentecostal) Church.

Pope Francis via video left a seven minute message to Kenneth Copeland and his congregation asking them for forgiveness and unity. Many news sources reported this and every post I saw on Facebook concerning this video was negative. Of course it was coming from people who were concerned that indeed the Pope could be the False Prophet and that we were beginning to see the formation of the One World Religion seen in Revelation. If a person is interested in hearing more about the this just do a simple Google search and you will find plenty on this subject.

However since that time many Christian denominations have decided to continue the trend of joining up in unity with the Catholic Church. Just recently Charisma News reported that the leaders of the Anglican Church are hoping to continue bridging the gap between Pentecostals and the Catholic Church.

The Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches (CEEC) still consider themselves part of the Anglican Church, however they not part of the Anglican Communion's that is loyal to the Archbishop of Canterbury. Their hope is to continue the "converge movement" that has been trending among some Charismatic and Pentecostal Churches to incorporate Episcopal/Anglican liturgy and celebration of certain sacraments, such as baptism of believers and the Lord's Supper, into their worship.

Archbishop Charles Travis of Jacksonville, Presiding Bishop of the CEEC says "There is a demonstration of Christian unity that's being played out."

So on one side we see the horrors of what could be the start of the One World Religion. On the other side there is a hope of joining the Christian denominations together in forming unity. But I must point out that even though there are hopes, it doesn't mean that doctrinally everything will lineup for the Christians. The reason for the splits in the first place is because of debates and spiritual abuse concerning doctrine. Is it possible that all these denominations could come together without fighting?

Something else that I have recently found is a video with a new concern on the One World Religion. In this video there is a completely different spin to who is behind the operation of the One World Religion.

As I watched the video below I wasn't completely shocked that someone would point to Islam as the One World Religion and Muhammad as the False Prophet. In fact as of late I have ran into more people who have ditched the idea that the Catholic Church and Pope are behind the One World Religion and turned to Islam as the threat. Honestly if you haven't seen the video below I do recommend it.

No matter where you stand on the issue I believe one thing for sure, and that is that the end is very near. For a saved believer that is a great thing, however for someone who is not saved it's not a great thing. If you don't know if you are saved today then I recommend you looking to Acts 2:38 right now.

If you have anymore questions please feel free to contact me. Also be sure to leave a comment believe.

  1. This is actually a really interesting subject, and I've heard some pretty good debate on both sides. I honestly don't think the pope means any harm and is simply trying to reach out to the various denominations. Helpful dialogue between Christians is for sure a fantastic thing. Our in-fighting sheds a poor light on the Gospel, but ecumenicism isn't an option either because each denomination truly believes in its individual "orthodoxy" and should not give that up just for the sake of finding common ground if they truly believe their doctrine is true.

I actually wanted your opinion on my own theory of the one world religion. I believe it might be the religion of self, or I guess people are calling it "humanism" these days. What one thing can bring the people of the world together more than the worship of man and his accomplishments/desires? Many already believe they've replaced God with their own ideas of "morality" and "justice." The next logical step is to truly worship themselves as gods, which isn't too far of a stretch in my opinion.

Thanks for the post! It was a thoughtful read!

  2. You know honestly Mark I'm glad you brought it up and if I had been thinking I should have added that thought as well. I've been hearing a lot of people with that position as well and honestly I think it makes sense that "humanism" could be the OWR. It very well could be the "mark" or "number of man" that we hear of in Revelation.

Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts!
